Truckee wrestling | Virrey, Clifton lead Wolverines in opener
ALL |
The Truckee High wrestling team had a successful season opener at Yerington last weekend, as two underclassmen swept through their first four matches of the year.
Sophomore Javier Virrey and freshman Dylan Clifton started out 4-0 with impressive wins coming off football season.
Truckee wrestling coach Danny Curtis said Virrey wrestled extremely well considering he just switched sports, coming from the Wolverines’ state champion varsity football team.
Virrey was allowed one week’s rest, and he proved he was ready to go as he pinned all his opponents in less than a minute.
Clifton, coming off an injury from football season, showed that he has healed quickly as he also pinned his first three opponents.
Justin Carter went 3-1 for the day to record another great Truckee start to the season.
