Truckee Youth Football Bandits kick off 2010 season against Lassen
The Truckee Youth Football Bandits, made up of 5-, 6- and 7-year-old players, started their rookie football campaign with a hard-fought game in Susanville.
The boys from Truckee battled but were considerably undersized compared to the Lassen team that also returned nine players from 2009. The game ended in a 28-7 victory for Lassen, despite a number of Truckee highlights.
Offensive standouts included Ronan Collin, Dylan Lewis, Bode Siebelink, Garrett Kirk and Owen Slusher. The defensive line was anchored by Jason Roth, Colin Reynolds, Carter Horton, Tait Nicholas and Jake Solberg. Touchdown-saving tackles were made by outside linebackers Garrett Kirk and Dylan Lewis, as well as middle linebacker Owen Slusher, prevented a Lassen blowout.
In the closing minutes of the game the young Truckee squad finally hit its stride, providing great up-front blocking to put a scoring drive together.
Slusher started the drive with a powerful run around the left end for 14 yards, followed by a fancy-footed cutback run of 12-plus yards by Kirk. The final 40 yards was covered by Slusher, breaking multiple tackles and punching it in for a touchdown.
Kirk closed out Truckeeand#8217;s scoring by outrunning several Lassen players for the PAT. For more information on Truckee Youth Football and Cheer games, go to http://www.truckeeyouthfootballandcheer.com.
