Truckee’s Sarah Williams tops Jr. National Freeskiing Tour stop

Sarah Williams of the Squaw Valley Big Mountain Team won the two-day Junior National Freeskiing Tour event at Crested Butte, Colo., last week.

Crested Butte is the first of four stops on the tour, which includes competitions at Crystal Mountain, Wash., Kirkwood and the finals at Snowbird, Utah. The Crested Butte stop bills itself as the and#8220;Extreme Championships.and#8221;

Williams, a 15-year-old sophomore at Truckee High, competed in the 15-17 girls’ age group, beating out Anna Suszynski of Vail and her Squaw Valley teammate Zabie Elmgren, who took the third spot on the podium.

Williams also topped the podium on North Tahoe Freeskiing’s first stop held at Alpine Meadows. The second stop of that tour is this weekend at Squaw Valley.

Other athletes from Truckee competing in the Crested Butte event included Drew Hartley, Daniel Costa and Austin Schrage of the Sugar Bowl team, as well as Pierson Souza and Miles Honens from Squaw Valley.
