TTHS alpine skiers top North Tahoe at Kirkwood meet
The Tahoe-Truckee high School alpine ski team came away with another first-place last week, this time at Kirkwood.
Truckee’s 343 points was enough to push it ahead of North Tahoe, which earned 336 and South Tahoe, which had 304.
In individual races, the Truckee girls finished second with 174 points, just a point behind North Tahoe at 175.
The TTHS boys took first place with 169 points, ahead of North Tahoe with 161.
Gary Cook led the boys’ slalom race with a 56.37 on the first course and 54.82 on the second for a combined 1:51.19 and first-place.
Brian Lowrance finished seventh in 1:55.40; Tyler Buschmann was ninth in 1:55.65; Derek Phebus was 10th in 1:56.72; Mike Thomas was 11th in 1:57.17; and Jason Waters 2:01.14.
In the girls’ race, Meghan Martin finished second -behind North Tahoe’s Julia Mancuso -in 57:17 and 54:65 for a combined finish of 1:51.82.
Stacey Cook was fourth in 1:57.49; Charlotte Fugier was sixth in 2:00.37 and Jenny Shaffer rounded out the top-10 in 2:07.04.
In 11th place was TTHS’ Katie Linette with a 2:07.71; Jill Marchi was 15th in 2:10.65; Kendra Windham finished 24th in 2:28.14 and Jessica McGovern finished in33rd place in 2:59.82.
Heather Phebus won the girls’ B class race in 1:14.97 and was followed by Truckee’s Katie Heckendorn, Jesse Kerton, Megan Minnick and Natalie Bergman to round out the top five.
The top five in the boys’ B race were: Dan Buschmann (58.25)in first, Jason Gifford in second, David Brooks in fourth and Michael Laroche in fifth.
