TTHS track, field teams win on road
The Tahoe-Truckee High School track team continued its oft-interrupted season with successful trips to Smith Valley and Dixon over the past two weeks.
On April 22 at Smith Valley, the 4×400 meter boys’ team consisting of Chris Birchard, Nick Candler, Rudy Cross and Robby McClendon took first place in 3:40.88.
“This is a very strong team with a good shot at making state, maybe winning state,” said assistant coach Lynn Harvey.
Winning first place in the 1,600 and 3,200 run was Christina Harvey, with a time of 6:03.51 in the 1,600 and 13:12 in the 3,200.
In field events, shot-putter Maya Jones was first overall with a 32’11” toss.
The 4×800 boys’ team of John Dias, Birchard, Dustin DeMont and Chris Waller was second in 9:20.48.
Candler placed second in the 100 dash in 11.32.
McClendon was second in the 300 hurdles in 44.35.
The girls’ 4×400 team of Krista Anderson, Cajsa Larson, Katie Mickelson and Natalie Bergman was second in 5:06.43 thanks to Larson, who had a .72 split, taking the team from last to first place.
Third places went to the following athletes and events:
–Chris Birchard in the 200 dash in 24.80
–Casey Nelson in the discus with a 113’8″ throw
–Maya Jones in the discus with a 91′ throw
On April 24 at Dixon, Candler finished first in the 100 dash in 11.38.
In the 4×100 weight-man relays, the team of Josh Anagnos, Seth Scribner, David Wells and Josh Wilson took first in 49.71.
The junior varsity weight-man relay team of Ray Mrockowski, Casey Nelson, Zach Wilson and Brad Noel were second.
Jill Marchi was second in the 100 hurdles in 18.23.
In the 200 dash, Candler returned for a second place in 23.47.
Chris Waller came in second in the junior varsity two-mile category in 11:15.00.
The 4×400 team of Birchard, Candler, Rudy Cross and McClendon was second in its event with a time of 3:43.66.
In field, Jones was second in shotput with a 27’10” toss, while she was fifth in the junior varsity discus competition with an 81’5″ throw.
The next meet is Saturday morning, May 9, at Smith Valley.
On Friday and Saturday, May 15-16, there will be a division one meet at Elko.
The state meet will be in Las Vegas the next week on Friday and Saturday, May 22-23.
