It’s playoff time in the National Football League ” aka the best time of the year for pro football fans.

The playoffs mean weekends full of the most important football games all year, and also a new format for the Sierra Sun’s Pro Football UPickEm Challenge. Now, instead of each correct pick being worth one point, they are worth four, meaning that players far out of the lead have the opportunity to make up ground quickly in the overall race if they pick well.

We saw that this week, with our weekly runner-up Jim Scott of Tahoe City moving up into the overall lead with his perfect 4-for-4 picks, earning him 16 points and putting him three points ahead of Truckee’s Greg Paulson for the season-long standings.

This week’s winner, David Shelton of Tahoe City, beat out Jim with his perfect score and accurate forecast of the tie-breaker game, earning him his choice of gift certificates from our sponsors, The Blue Coyote Sports Bar and Grill (with locations in Truckee and Squaw Valley) and Pete ‘n Peters Sports Bar (in Tahoe City).

With another four playoff games slated for this coming weekend, it’s going to get interesting at the top of the leaderboard. So remember to make your picks on time, and do your homework because every game counts for four points now.
