V-ballers show strong in tourney

The Truckee girls’ volleyball teams had impressive showings this weekend at a tournament in Dayton.

The tournament consisted of two pools with five teams to each pool. Each team played every other team in its pool two games to 18 points.

In the varsity’s first game the split with Incline losing the first game 9-18 and winning the second game 18-10.

“We were still sleeping the first game,” said Head Coach Maggie Shane. “We used that game to warm up.”

Truckee defeated Spring Creek 18-13 in both games. Against Yerington the Wolverines won 18-8 and 18-12. Facing off against Spanish Springs Truckee suffered its second loss 13-18, but managed to come back and win the second game 18-16.

In the last games of pool play Truckee defeated Virginia City 18-10 and 18-12 to finish first in the pool.

In the semifinals Truckee played Dayton the best of three to 25 points. Dayton won both games 13-25 and 22-25.

“It took us awhile to get up to speed and find a tempo that worked,” Shane said. “The second game was more point for point scoring.”

The junior varsity team finish second in its pool and lost in the first round of the semifinals to Lowry.

Melissa Gadsby was named to the varsity all tournament team and Dani Turner won first in the junior varsity setting contest.
