The Truckee High varsity volleyball team played on three consecutive days last week, traveling to Sparks Thursday, Spring Creek Friday and Lowry Saturday.

The Wolverines beat Sparks 25-19, 25-19, 25-12, lost to Spring Creek 25-12, 28-30, 25-20, 25-13 and lost again to Lowry 25-15, 25-19, 25-14.

“It’s been a rough weekend with all the traveling,” head coach Maggie Shane said.

Making the week even tougher was the loss of senior team captain Natalie Singer, who was out of town due to a death in her family.

“We have such a connected team, mentally the team missed her,” Shane said. “This is one of the most harmonious teams I’ve ever coached, so I think it was kind of difficult for them to stay focused (without Singer).”

Shane said playing without Singer also limits Truckee’s line-up options. Still, Shane is confident her team will rebound for the final two weeks of the season.

“We are having good practices this week and are looking to a strong showing this Thursday (against Dayton) and Friday (against Yerington).”

Truckee ” now 8-5 in league play ” is tied for fourth place with Yerington in the Northern 3A division, with four games remaining.

Shane said with Dayton at 9-4, the final stretch of season should involve a lot of jockying for positions before zones begin on Nov. 4.

This Friday in the Truckee High gym is senior farewell, where the girls will take on Yerington at 6 p.m. for their final home game of the season.
