Volleyball: Season is not over for Wolverine strikers

The lady Strikers had victory in its grasp last Thursday Oct.19, as the Wolverines battled Yerington in five games to eventually fall just short of the win. While the Truckee team did not pull out the victory in front of its home crowd, it did demonstrate solid team cohesiveness and aggressive play that was lacking at the start of the season.

Junior Heather Shove led the Wolverines through the match with eight kills and seven blocks for the day. Jasmine Eisenberg also came out swinging with 11 kills and two aces, while Senior Ashley Long loomed over the net in middle hitter position with five kills which resulted in crucial side outs for the lady Strikers.

While losing 15-13, 4-15, 15-7, 12-15, 7-15, the Wolverines generated momentum and confidence with its tough competitiveness, and will head into its final game tomorrow night against North Tahoe ready to play.Varsity volleyball league playoffs begin on Halloween, Oct. 31, though final standings will not be determined until tomorrows’ games have been played.
