Volleyballers suffer losses

Dan Savickas

The Truckee High School varsity volleyball team suffered a loss to Spring Creek High School on Friday and Lowry High School on Saturday.

On Friday the lady Wolverines won the first match 25-23, but turned around to lose the next three matches 25-21, 25-23 and 25-18.

“They decided they didn’t want to play anymore,” said coach Maggie Shane.

The Wolverines managed to run plays the team has been working on and Shane said the overall skills were not too bad, but “they weren’t quit clicking,” Shane said.

In the fourth game the team started missing serves and started making what Shane referred to as “personal errors.”

The Wolverines are going to be working on “being consistent,” according to Shane.

One area were the Wolverines are always consistent is serving. If the Wolverine’s serving is on, so is the team. But if the team’s serving struggles, so does the team.

Saturday’s game against Lowry was the same story.

“Serving was not as bad as it has been, but we had a lot of hitting errors,” Shane said.

The Wolverines lost the first two matches 25-15 and 25-23. The team battled back to win the third game 25-22, but fell in the fourth game 25-14.

“The kids that were consistent are not holding it together,” Shane said. “We were real consistent in the beginning of the season and that needs to start coming back.”

“The kids need to find their self confidence again,” Shane said.
