The event — a benefit for the Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows Foundation and the Humane Society — began at Squaw Valley’s KT22 lift and finished at the base of Alpine Meadows. The route sent participants up Easy Street to the Western States Trail, where they climbed to 6,890 feet at the base of the Knob Hill before descending to Alpine Meadows Road.

The race also included a 10K People & Pets category and is part of the Tahoe Trail Running Series.

Walstad crossed the finish in 46 minutes, 3.89 seconds to claim the overall victory more than six minutes ahead of runner-up Bart Davis of Boise, Idaho (52:42.51). The 42-year-old also was the top women’s finisher in the Squaw Mountain Run and Northstar Mountain Run, and was the overall winner of the Marlette 10K.

Jayden Obrochta of El Dorado Hills finished third with a time of 54:34.38 and was followed by Jon Fallers of Hillsborough (54:54.73) and Sandy Hynes of Truckee, who was second in the women’s field with a time of 55:49.88.
