Wheelchair tennis rolls into Truckee

The USTA NorCal presents the 18th Annual Tahoe Donner International Wheelchair Tennis Sectional Championship, a part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour as a Championship Series-3, Oct. 3-5.

According to Director Bonni Sue Hickson, this duo status award-winning tournament will draw the top world-class Men’s, Women’s, Quads’ Main/Second divisional athletes, plus 10 other divisions that include our local athletes, Junior and Seniors.

More than 80 players are expected from around the world to this USTA and ITF sanctioned event. Countries already represented are Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Chile, Brazil, the Netherlands, Mexico, France, Peru, Poland, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Taiwan and Canada. These athletes, including our local Reno/Tahoe Wheelchair Tennis Team, will compete at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Club daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. beginning Friday, Oct. 3rd. Finals in all divisions are on Sunday, Oct. 5th, followed by the lively community Up/Down Doubles tournament till dusk.

Mayor Ted Owens will proclaim Oct. 1-5 as “Truckee International Wheelchair Tennis Week” in the Town of Truckee.
