Wolverine sluggers successful at Dayton, Yerington tournaments

In the Tahoe-Truckee High School baseball team’s first outing of the season, “the boys looked good,” said head coach Craig Lawrence.

In a six-inning scrimmage against Dayton March 6, Truckee pounded out 21 hits (13 being extra bases) and Jeff Andrs hit his first homer of the season with a two-run blast.

Andrs went 3 for 3 while Curtis Donaldson was 4 for 4.

Tom Hernandez hit a double and triple, and had four RBI.

Kyle Barth and Geoff Hovorka each went 2 for 3 with Barth getting three RBI.

Pitcher Gabe Valle “looked real impressive the first three innings,” said Lawrence.

Valle faced 11 hitters, allowing just two hits.

“It was a nice start to the season,” Lawrence said.

On March 13, Truckee defeated Dayton 9-7 at the Yerington Tournament.

“The boys hit real well in this game,” Lawrence said.

Truckee also defeated Incline 8-6, thanks, in part, to home runs by Andrs and Valle.

A close one

Lone Pine edged the Wolverines 2-1 in a game in which no one scored after the third inning.

Barth scored Truckee’s single run.
