Wolverines 8-0 after sweep; Lakers up next

The Tahoe-Truckee High School varsity baseball team maintained its unbeaten record in Division I play by sweeping Battle Mountain in a doubleheader last Saturday. All that now stands in the way of a league pennant and a perfect season record for the Wolverines is North Tahoe High School.

And the Wolverines wouldn’t have it any different way.

“We wanted it like this – meeting North Tahoe for the title,” said Wolverine pitcher Matt May, who won the second game of the doubleheader against the Longhorns to raise his record to 5-2. “We’re feeling excited because we want revenge for last year.”

Last season, North Tahoe knocked Truckee out of the state tournament in a one-game playoff to determine the league’s third-place representative to the state championships.

“Our seniors remember what happened last year,” said Truckee coach Craig Anderson. “They’ve waited all year for a rematch; facing North Tahoe for the championship is the way it should be.”

All Truckee needs to do to claim the Div. I pennant and win the right to host the Div. I tournament May 16-17 is to win one of the two scheduled games against North Tahoe Saturday (May 10). Two wins by the Lakers, however, would give the Lakers the pennant and move the Div. I tournament to

North Shore.

“The sweep of Battle Mountain puts us in great shape,” Anderson said. “All we now need is a split in the
