Wolverines clean-up at Dayton

LARA MULLIN, Sierra Sun

The Tahoe-Truckee junior varsity and varsity football teams conquered Dayton last Friday, resulting in almost identical scores. The junior varsity finished the day victorious with a 37-6 win, while the varsity tallied one more point to close the game with a 38-6 count. The Varsity Wolverines did not find the goal line until the second quarter as the score after the first quarter remained 0-0. David Larson took charge of the Tahoe-Truckee team in the second quarter with two touchdowns – the first on a 22 -yard run and the second from a seven-yard pass. Heading into halftime leading by 12, the Wolverines knew they needed to solidify their lead, and scored off the opening kick-off as Birchard returned the ball 90 yards to score. Dean Molina quickly stepped up for the Wolverines with a three-yard run to put another six points on the board for Tahoe-Truckee. Dayton found its first opportunity to score in the third quarter on a 12-yard pass, yet this was the first and last time they would see the end zone in this game.

Closing with the excitement that opened the third quarter, the Wolverines quarterback Kevin Schlesinger carried the ball in to score, placing the Tahoe-Truckee team solidly ahead going into the fourth quarter. Birchard, who scored after an 18-yard run, delivered the last touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter. The Wolverines return to Surprise Stadium this Saturday at 11:00.
