Wolverines to get back to the game after break

After a two-week break, the Truckee Wolverines boys and girls varsity basketball teams will resume play tomorrow night by hosting the Bishop Manouge Miners.

Both Miner squads captured state titles last season, with the boys’ team among this year’s favorites to win it again.

While the Wolverines boys’ team took time off to rest, regroup and practice, the Miners played in two tournaments over the Christmas break.

Truckee is 1-4 (1-2) while the Miners were 7-7 (2-0) after a loss last week in the Las Vegas Prep Championship game to a strong Woodbridge High team from Southern California.

The Lady Wolverines are 4-2 (1-1) and should match up well against the Lady Miners, who lost several players from last year’s championship team to graduation.

The girls start at 6 p.m., while the boys tip off at 7:30 p.m.

In other high school sports action, the Wolverine wrestling team will be at the Douglas Tournament in Minden, Nev., on Saturday.

The Wolverine Alpine ski team’s race schedule will kick off at Alpine Meadows on Tuesday with a race against North Tahoe.

The Nordic ski team doesn’t have a match scheduled until Jan. 11 at Mammoth.
