Wolverines wrap-ups

Staff Reports

The Truckee High varsity boys basketball team lost 68-67 at Dayton in overtime on Friday. Wolverines head coach Keith Crawford said the loss was particularly tough to digest after a great effort by his team.

“That was the first time this year I’ve actually gotten emotional after a game,” Crawford said. “Our guys played their butts off … It was a heartbreaker. It was by far the best game I’ve seen in the 3A in the two years I’ve been coaching.”

Crawford said his team led by four points with 39 seconds remaining in the game before allowing Dayton the final five points for the win.

Truckee head coach Mike Hoehn said that at the start of the game he could tell that it was going to be a close one.

Down by six at the half, the Wolverines came out strong in the third quarter and tied the game with strong defense and timely shooting by Pat Galvin and Cody Wicks. Both teams traded baskets into the fourth quarter. Then Truckee’s Dylan Secrist went to work, scoring eight of his 16 points in the final minutes of the game. The Wolverines went up by three points with a minute left and held for the 47-44 win.

“We stuck to our game plan and executed our offense down the stretch,” Hoehn said. “Nick Tennant had a great game, with a season high 13 points and 10 rebounds.”-
