Varsity: The varsity volleyball team beat Fernley in Fernley last Tuesday 25-18, 25-7, 25-17. Truckee head coach Maggie Shane said it was a slow-paced game.

“Fernley has a lot of raw talent and should improve as the season goes on,” Shane said.

The Wolverines beat Incline 21-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-13, 16-14 on Thursday.

“Each team had their ups and downs,” Shane said of the matches. “We had to come back from behind and worked hard to win the fifth game.

Freshmen and JV: Both the freshmen and JV volleyball teams won against Fernley last Tuesday. Only JV played at Incline and won in two games.

JV: The JV football team lost to Sparks at Surprise Stadium Saturday.

“We played terrible,” Wolverines head coach Steve Ames said. “We overlooked Sparks High School as players and coaches. We did a terrible job at that.”

Ames said Truckee missed 28 tackles as well as a number of blocks, committed eight penalties and lost two fumbles. The Wolverines came to life late, scoring 21 points in the second half while shutting out Sparks. But it was too little too late.

Truckee quarterback B.J. Carter connected on 11 of 16 passes for 119 yards. Ryan Macken had six carries for 45 yards and two touchdowns. Evan Hyland carried the ball six times for 55 yards and a touchdown. Trever Allen had four carries for 15 yards, and Justin Vosburgh two carries for 23 yards.

Defensively, Eric O’Connell and Eric McMullen each recovered a fumble. Nick Myers had an interception and Sean Collins blocked a punt.
