Wrestlers shine at tourney
The THS wrestling squad produced a few a bright spots last weekend at tournament in Tonopah, Nev.
“Marcus Waters had a great tournament and made it to the finals for the first time in high school,” coach Mike Halket said. “His last match to get to the finals was by far his best match ever.
“He’s peaking at the right time.”
Waters lost the finals match and finished the day 4-1.
Buck Claesson (112 lbs.) finished third at 4-1, too.
“He’s probably the best wrestler in town,” Halket said. “He made a couple of mistakes that the other kid capitalized on, so we’ll get him back in the wrestling mat.”
Another good day was had by Shane Wright (160 lbs.) when he missed the medals round by just one match. But Halket said he is doing great.
“Considering that this is his only his second year and he’s beating varsity kids,” Halket said.
He finished the day at 4-2.
Next up for the wrestling team is a divisional duel in Yerington against Right of Passage on Friday and Saturday.
