Youth hockey, soccer tryouts coming up
The Incline Invasion boy’s soccer team will hold tryouts on Monday, July 12, and Tuesday, July 13, at 6 p.m. at the Village Green fields in Incline Village next to the Hyatt Hotel. Players born on or after August 1, 1990, and before August 1, 1992, are welcome.In the 2004 fall season, the Invasion will play in the Great Basin Youth Soccer League (GBYSL) as a single U13 team, a single U14 team, or will field both a U13 and a U14 team, depending on the number of players who tryout.The Incline Invasion is an independent boys competitive team seeking skilled and dedicated players that competes in local and out of state tournaments, along with its GBYSL games. In spring 2004, the Boys U13 Invasion advanced to the semifinal round of the Nevada State Cup, where it tied for third place.The Invasion is coached by Jay Long (USSF D licensed) and Juan Luna (long-time local coach and active player) and currently has players from Incline Village, North Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. The High Sierra Wild, a nonprofit youth ice hockey organization, will hold tryouts on August 2, 4 and 7 for travel teams in four age divisions. The Wild are Sierra Nevada region teams with players from Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, South Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Truckee and other surrounding communities.The Wild is one of 13 ice hockey member clubs that compete in the Northern California Junior Hockey Association (NORCAL).Tryouts will be held for Midgets (15-18) on Monday, August 2, at 7:30 p.m. at Sierra Ice & Sports in Sparks and on Saturday, August 7, at 10 a.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena. Bantams (13-14) will try out on August 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Sierra Ice and on August 7 at 9 a.m. at South Lake Tahoe. Pee Wees (11-12) will have tryouts on Wednesday, August 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Sierra Ice and on August 7 at 11 a.m. at South Lake Tahoe.The Squirts (9-10) will take the ice on August 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Sierra Ice and on August 7 at noon at South Lake Tahoe.Players that attend travel team tryouts must be accompanied by a parent or guardian so that paperwork can be completed. Players new to NORCAL will need to bring a copy of their birth certificate to tryouts. A player can attend one, but is encouraged to attend both, tryout sessions for his/her age group. A fee of $45 per player will be assessed to cover the ice time rental needed for tryouts.Sierra Ice & Sports is located at 600 Spice Island Dr. in Sparks and South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena is located at 1176 Rufus Allen Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe.Parent information meetings and player skate arounds will be held July 26 from 6-7 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena and on July 30 from 7-8 p.m. at Sierra Ice & Sports.Along with the Southern California Amateur Hockey Association, NORCAL is recognized by the California Amateur Hockey Association for conducting youth ice hockey competition at the Tier II, A and B levels as an affiliate organization of USA Hockey.Call the High Sierra Wild hotline at (775) 323-4625 for more information.
