Explore Tahoe: Shake up party plans, drink some wine and try your hand at painting
The Painted Vine: Wine and beer are available for purchase as well as food-pairing options. Painters can join classes at their brick-and-mortar shop at 10770 Donner Pass Road, No. 103, or request an off-site event. Visit www.painted-vine.com to learn more.
Easel and Wine: The party host need only plan for refreshments. The Incline Village-based mobile art studio has every supply covered — even water to soak the brushes (which they take away, too). Visit www.easelandwine.com to learn more.
Girls’ night, date night, kids’ night — you name the occasion, and two North Tahoe-Truckee businesses are happy to help you celebrate.
They’re bringing a local flavor to the growing national trend of businesses focused on “paint and wine” — pairing the concept of creating fun pieces of art while sipping on a glass of your favorite wine (or other beverage).
At the Painted Vine in Truckee, owner Stacey Stahl encourages painters to go rogue.
“If I say the sunset is purple and orange and someone would rather paint a red and yellow sunset, then please — paint that sunset red and yellow,” said Stahl. “We want people to make their piece what they want to make of it, there are no rules to their artwork.”
The Painted Vine offers guests the opportunity to create gorgeous landscape paintings inspired by Big Blue, and all artists who teach at the shop are local, connecting them on a more personal level to the lake.
“You’re not going to find a ‘this could be anywhere’ kind of painting — it’s definitely Tahoe,” Stahl said.
Another huge draw for locals and visitors is the monthly “Paint Your Pet” class. Stahl did make mention that guests need bring only a photo of their pets and to please leave the fur babies at home.
“We provide assistance and education to make sure everyone takes home something they will be proud of,” Stahl said. “We make sure your pet doesn’t look like an alien at the end.”
Meanwhile, for those of you who prefer to create from the comfort of your own home or a local business, Incline Village-based Easel and Wine has you covered.
The entirely mobile art studio specializes in traveling art parties for any occasion and can be booked for private residences, restaurants or virtually any other event location.
“We bring everything and we leave with everything,” said Easel and Wine owner Ann Valdes. “You don’t even know we’ve been there apart from the masterpieces that are in everyone’s hands.”
Valdes encourages everyone to try their hand at painting.
“Everyone can paint,” she said. “People who say they can’t draw a stick figure — they can paint. A lot of people are hesitant, but then they get into it and they really love it.”
Easel and Wine has a gallery of paintings to choose from and also does image special requests. They provide the artist and all of the supplies you’ll need to make a masterpiece – you secure the food and drink of choice either on your own for the residential party, or from the host restaurant.
“Our public parties are fun too, but it’s nice when you have the private parties because you’re at home or your friend’s house and it’s just a more comfortable atmosphere.”
