TRUCKEE, Calif. – An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting that occurred on Friday, February 13, in the Truckee Save Mart parking lot, according to a Truckee Police Department Facebook post.

“Last Friday evening, around 9 p.m., TPD Officers responded to the Save Mart parking lot after receiving several 9-1-1 calls of shots fired in the area. Our officers responded within minutes, but all involved parties had fled prior to arrival,” the post stated.

The initial crime scene investigation revealed numerous spent shell casings on the ground where the incident was reported to have occurred. Detectives began collecting evidence, reviewing surveillance video, and canvassing the area for additional information.

They determined that the situation had stemmed from a physical altercation involving a group of males.

“During the altercation, one male produced a handgun and began firing towards the others. The shooting continued even as the others attempted to flee, and without any regard for innocent bystanders in range nearby. Remarkably, no one was injured or killed during the incident,” the post continued.

After investigating throughout the weekend, TPD developed probable cause to arrest a 15-year-old Truckee resident for a multitude of crimes, including Attempted Murder, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Violation of his Probation.

He is being held at Placer County Juvenile Detention Facility without bail. The firearm used in this crime has not been found.

Anyone with additional information about this case is encouraged to contact the department at 530-550-2320 or email crimetips@townoftruckee.gov.
