UPDATE as of Monday, June 1 at 4 p.m. –

On May 31, 2026, at approximately 1530 hours, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2000 block of Loan Mountain St for a child custody dispute report. On arrival, patrol Deputies met with Crystal Rose, who advised that she had allowed Christopher Meithof to stay with her overnight, so he could visit their 5-year-old child. Ms. Rose advised that when she woke up Sunday morning, she discovered Christopher and the child were not at home. After several hours of attempting to contact and locate Mr. Meithof and the child, Ms. Rose contacted the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies checked local traffic and Flock cameras and located Christopher’s Red Jeep Grand Cherokee driving southbound on Hwy 395, passing old Clear Creek Rd at 4:36 AM. Patrol Deputies attempted to contact Christopher, but his phone went directly to voicemail.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., June 1, 2026, using information gained through the multi-jurisdictional investigation, the U.S. Marshal’s Pacific Southwest Fugitive Task Force, the Homeland Security Investigations Los Angeles Division, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Bureau conducted a traffic stop in Palmdale, California, on a vehicle and recovered the missing Carson City child. The child is safe and unharmed. The suspect, Christopher Meithof, was not with the child at the time of the recovery but was located and arrested at a residence near the traffic stop. Meithof was arrested without incident and is in custody at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Palmdale station, pending extradition to Nevada. The child is in the care of Palmdale Child Protective Services, which will help facilitate the child’s return to her mother.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance with the investigation and safe recovery of the child:

· United States Marshal’s Pacific Southwest Fugitive Task Force
