Sustaining a facial injury can be overwhelming- physically, emotionally, and functionally. At Tahoe Oral Surgery, we understand the complexity of facial trauma and the importance of restoring not only your health, but also your confidence and quality of life. Our team is committed to delivering compassionate, personalized care from the moment of injury through full recovery.

Dr. Naftulin and Dr. Appelblatt bring extensive, hands-on experience in treating facial trauma, with advanced training from respected institutions including an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Ohio State University and 6-year dual-degree residency program at Bellevue Hospital in New York. Their backgrounds allow them to confidently manage a wide range of injuries, from straightforward dental trauma to complex fractures involving the face and jaw.

Facial injuries generally fall into three categories: soft tissue injuries, bone injuries, and damage to critical structures such as nerves or salivary glands. Each type requires a precise and thoughtful approach to ensure proper healing and long-term function.

· Soft tissue injuries including lacerations to the skin, gums, or muscles- are carefully treated with suturing techniques designed to promote optimal healing while minimizing visible scarring. Special attention is given to nearby structures like nerves and blood vessels to reduce the risk of lasting complications.

· Bone injuries such as fractures of the jaw, cheek, or nose, require stabilization to heal correctly. Because facial bones cannot be set with traditional casts, advanced methods are used. Intermaxillary fixation may be recommended for certain jaw fractures, temporarily securing the jaws together to allow proper alignment during healing. In other cases, rigid fixation using small titanium plates and screws provides stability while maintaining function and comfort.

· Dental injuries are among the most common forms of facial trauma. Whether a tooth has been displaced, fractured, or completely knocked out, prompt treatment is critical. Our team works quickly to stabilize the area, preserve existing structures, and, when necessary, plan for long-term solutions such as dental implants to restore both appearance and function.

At Tahoe Oral Surgery, our approach to facial trauma is comprehensive addressing immediate needs while planning for the best possible long-term outcome. With offices in South Lake Tahoe and Truckee, we are here to support you every step of the way.
