TRUCKEE, Calif. — Interstate 80 reopened in both directions over Donner Summit on Monday afternoon, but chain controls remain in effect, California Highway Patrol Truckee said on social media.

In a 2:30 p.m. update, CHP officials said commercial trucks are being turned around at the Nevada state line and at Alta because of ongoing hazardous conditions.

“Let’s avoid unnecessary spin-outs and crashes so we can keep the freeway open,” said CHP Truckee on Instagram. “Carry chains, reduce your speed, and drive for the conditions. Slow it down and help us keep I-80 moving safely.
