TRUCKEE, Calif. — Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue teams rescued a 44-year-old woman who became lost while skiing Dec. 31, officials said.
The skier called 911 around 1 p.m. on Dec. 31 after realizing she had lost her way. She was able to provide her coordinates before her phone service dropped, according to Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue.
Rescue teams instructed the woman to remain in place, advice she followed while waiting for help to arrive.
“At approximately 2:45 p.m., Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue A-team skiers made contact with the missing person,” the organization said in a social media post. “She was cold and tired, but in good spirits.”
Rescuers led the woman back to the ridgeline before skiing down to safety. She was reunited with her family later that afternoon, and all parties were safely home and warmed up by about 6 p.m., just in time to ring in the new year.
Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue credited the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, its volunteers and a local ski resort for their assistance in what officials described as a well-coordinated search.
