In Loving Memory of Claudia Jones
October 13, 1938 – December 14, 2025

The community of Tahoe City bids a fond and heartfelt farewell to one of its most cherished pillars, Claudia Jones, who passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025. Known to many simply as Mrs. Jones, Claudia lived a life defined by steady devotion and an unwavering love for the children of the Sierras.

A Legacy of Care

Claudia dedicated forty years of her life to serving as Director of the Tahoe Community Nursery School. To Claudia, this was never merely a job; it was a calling. Under her guidance, the school became far more than a place of learning; it was a sanctuary of kindness, creativity, and safety. She possessed a rare gift for seeing the potential in every child, guiding generations of Tahoe locals through their first milestones with a gentle hand and an encouraging word. It is no exaggeration to say that part of the community’s foundation was built within her classrooms. Her influence ripples through the town today in the adults who once sat in her circle time and now lead lives rooted in the values she modeled.

A Life Shared

Beyond her teaching contributions, Claudia was the heartbeat of her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Hugh Jones. Theirs was a rare and beautiful marriage of shared sunrises over the lake and winters weathered together. She leaves behind a legacy of family, including her daughter Karen and her son Scott. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Claudia was a steady guiding light, offering wisdom, comfort, and unconditional love. She taught them that life is best lived with a generous spirit and that “home” is wherever family gathers.

Honoring Her Memory

Claudia’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit remains in the laughter of children playing in the Tahoe pines and in the countless lives she touched. Her life was defined by love, and she was blessed with an amazing 87 years.

Details regarding a community celebration of life will be announced at a later date, to be held when the Tahoe wildflowers she loved so much begin to bloom.
