Team Palisades Tahoe’s Big Sky results

BIG SKY, Mont. – Team Palisades Tahoe competed at the WRanger Cup Devo/Open in Big Sky Mont. on Dec. 15-18. Over 20 athletes from the team competed in giant slalom and slalom.

The results

Giant slalom men’s post-graduate category:

  • Florian Standteiner – 4th overall
  • Gustin Clausen – 7th overall
  • Maxwell Copper – 11th overall (3rd for U18 division)
  • Gunnar Barnwell – 12th overall

Slalom women’s post graduate category:

  • Brynn Hanley 12th overall

Gunnar Barnwell also serves as the assistant FIS mens coach for the Palisades Tahoe alpine program under FIS head coach Josh Transue.

“It wasn’t great skiing by me day one and two, but I was so pleased to see our athletes perform so well in such challenging snow conditions against some really good ski racers,” Barnwell said, who explained changing temperatures and surfaces changes made for soft conditions for the earlier races, which caused big line deviations.

Former South Tahoe local, Marty Harris, serves as the women’s head coach.

The lack of snow so far this winter has caused the team and coaches to travel all over to find snow and get valuable training.

The team’s next race will be at Sugar Bowl on Jan. 5-8.
