VERBIER, Switzerland – Truckee resident, Mia Jones, closed the chapter on her rookie year in the Freeride World Tour with the best outcome possible—2026 FWT Champion.

After winning two tour stops, she secured the championship title when she won the Freeride World Tour’s grand finale in Verbier, Switzerland, on March 27, after an ambitious descent on the Bec des Rosses mountain.

A pinnacle destination for extreme freeriding with a near 2,000-foot vertical drop and 43-degree slopes, the Bec des Rosses is the tour’s final stop for good reason, boasting the steepest and most complex terrain on the tour.

After close to 20 inches of fresh snowfall leading up to the event, the FWT grand finale stage was set.

Not only did Jones execute her line with the fast, yet calculated style she’s known for, she was also the only snowboarder in the women’s category to start from gate 3, which drops the rider onto a highly exposed and technical line.

Jones descended the complex terrain masterfully, stringing together multiple airs for her first place finish and champion title.

“I can’t believe it. I was pretty nervous riding the Bec for the first time,” Jones said, “but in these conditions, the venue was just incredible. There was so much energy at the top, with everyone cheering; it was an unforgettable moment.”

In conquering the Bec des Rosses in winning style, she joins her father, Jeremy Jones, who won there in 2004.

The next generation Jones also won another top honor earlier this season in the sport of freeride as the first FIS Freeride World Champion.

At just 20 years old in her rookie year, Jones is already making her mark on the sport.
