Staff Report Follow
TRUCKEE, Calif. — Following the strong community response to the 2024 workshops, the Truckee Chamber of Commerce and the Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe Political Action Committee (CATT PAC) are pleased to announce the return of the two-part How to Run for Office Series in 2026.
The first workshop will take place on Wednesday, April 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Truckee Town Hall. This interactive session is free of charge and designed to equip prospective candidates with the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to run for local office.
The comprehensive workshop will feature four key components:
Part 1: Why Run
The program begins with one of the most important questions any future candidate must answer: Why do you want to run? Kathleen Eagan, the Town of Truckee’s first mayor, will lead a thoughtful discussion to clarify motivations, identify community priorities, address potential conflicts of interest, and articulate a compelling reason for voters to offer their support to you as an elected official.
Part 2: Workload Expectations
Running for office and serving once elected can require significant time and dedication. Mary Hetherington, long-time Truckee Tahoe Airport District Board Member, will guide participants through the realities of campaign demands and the responsibilities that come with holding public office.
Part 3: Campaign Strategy
The afternoon session will focus on building an effective campaign. David Diamond of AirDiamond Creative Consulting will lead an in-depth discussion covering messaging and theme development, drafting a Candidate Statement of Qualifications, budgeting, fundraising strategies, volunteer recruitment, and community outreach planning.
Panel Discussion
The workshop will conclude with a panel of current and former elected officials who will share candid insights into their campaign journeys and experiences in public service. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain a firsthand perspective on what it takes to serve effectively.
Whether a longtime community advocate or someone newly considering public service, the How to Run for Office Series offers an inclusive and supportive environment for aspiring leaders. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
