To try and decide each week where and what to eat in and around the basin can be a challenge – there are so many amazing choices. In this feature we’ll dive into dishes that will surely satisfy those hunger pangs and leave you wondering where to go next.

Who doesn’t like a happy hour? Given the cost of everything else these days, being able to eat out at a discount – especially during a time when the visitor crowds have died down – sounds like an amazing night out. So, for this week’s feature, we’re going to change it up a bit and highlight a few options on the Happy Hour menu at Truckee Brewing Co.

Buffalo Chicken Fajita Quesadilla: Yeah, that’s a lot to pack into the name of a dish, but there’s also a ton of flavor that’s packed into this quesadilla. The chicken is coated in blackening seasoning before cooked on the flattop and stuffed into a spinach tortilla along with cheddar and mozzarella cheese, sauteed bell peppers, and buffalo sauce. It’s then topped with fresh pico de gallo and micro cilantro and served with a lime wedge.

This quesadilla eats like a meal – it doesn’t skimp on size – or flavor. The blackening seasoning combined with the buffalo sauce lights the fuse before it explodes on your palette. The sweet and crisp tenderness of the peppers provide the texture and if you’re thinking of pairing with one of their beers, the Truckaté (Mexican lager) is a no brainer given the ties to southwest cuisine.

Birria Tacos: Truckee IPA beer braised pork is slowly roasted in their pizza over for 12 hours then placed inside corn tortillas with white onion, shredded mozzarella and micro cilantro. The tortillas get a short round on the flattop before served alongside lime wedges and the classic birria consume for dipping.

If eating this taco was a lap at the Indianapolis 500, I would have won. I blinked at it was gone. The pork is insanely tender and super addicting and gets amplified with every dip into the consume. The cheese is perfectly gooey and the onions, along with the crispy outer pockets of the tortilla, provide plenty of texture.

Happy Hour at TBC runs Sunday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and it’s worth mentioning along with the food and drink specials there’s also taco Tuesdays, prime rib Wednesdays, and maybe the best deal in all of Truckee: half off pizzas on Thursdays. It is dine-in only so sit back and relax with one of their hand-crafted brews and stay until your belly is full.
