All-State soccer: Steph O’Neil receives highest 3A honor

The vote was unanimous.

Not only did Stephanie Oand#8217;Neil prove she was the best player in the Sierra League, the senior midfielder stood out as the top player in the state among the 3A ranks.

Oand#8217;Neil, a three-year varsity starter and key piece of Truckeeand#8217;s three consecutive state titles, was voted by coaches as the 3Aand#8217;s Most Valuable Player.



Her teammate, junior Kennedy Power, was voted Defensive Player of the Year, while Truckee coach Amy Valdivia was recognized as Coach of the Year.

Truckee senior Shannon Nicholls was voted to the All-State first team at halfback, senior Katy Stephens was voted to the first team at fullback and sophomore Mikaela Arnstein as a utility player.



North Tahoe senior Dani Pranin made the All-State second team at halfback, Truckee junior Kelsi Decker was voted to the second team at forward and Truckee junior Kelsey Porter at halfback.

North Tahoe junior Kelsey Wittels and Truckee junior Jordan Tollison received honorable mention recognition.

Reisa Saddoris of Spring Creek was voted Offensive Player of the Year.

In boysand#8217; All-State voting, Truckee senior Abel Islas made the All-State first team at halfback, and junior teammate Bryan Reed was voted to the first team at fullback.

Truckee junior Michael Brixey made the second team at forward, while teammates Robby Heck and Jason Apolinar received the not at halfback, and freshman Nash McMullen at fullback.

North Tahoe junior Zach Rickenbach received honorable mention recognition, as did Truckeeand#8217;s Nate Hamill and Easel Grass.

Abi Quintino of Sparks was voted MVP. Inclineand#8217;s Alex Reyes-Manrriquez was the Offensive Player of the Year and Johnny Luna Defensive Player of the Year. Tom Canino of Incline was voted Coach of the Year.
