North Tahoe crime logs: Screwdriver-wielding man threatens retail shop staff
TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Below is a selection of incidents from the Placer County Sheriff’s press log for Feb. 1-28.
The Sierra Sun publishes crime logs for the Tahoe portion of Placer County as they are provided by PCSO, and as time and space allow. These logs for January were emailed to the Sun on March 22.
People arrested are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
February 1
10:15am, 2000 block Chalet, Tahoe City: Unknown suspect stole victim’s class ring from his bedroom on New Year’s Eve.
February 3
1:40am, Highway 89/Alpine Meadows Rd, Tahoe City: Driver was pulled over per a “stop and hold” order from CHP. Driver was involved in a pursuit earlier in the evening. After another pursuit with PCSO, two spike strips were deployed. Suspect exited his vehicle with a hostage at gunpoint. Suspect was eventually shot and killed. The hostage and all Law Enforcement personnel were unharmed.
1:30pm, 8700 Block Brook, Kings Beach: Female reported her sister used her identity during a traffic stop in Reno resulting in a citation. The victim wishes prosecution.
February 6
12pm, Peter Grubb Hut, Truckee: Report taken for an agency assist with Nevada County for a search and rescue. No one was injured.
February 8
2pm, 5500 Block Sahara, Carnelian Bay: Unknown suspect diverted funds from victim’s social security account sometime during the past two years. $5,000 loss.
February 9
9:30am, 9200 Block Brockway Springs, Kings Beach: Unknown suspect stole victim’s snowboard left sitting unsecured on the deck.
February 11
3pm, Northstar California Resort: Report taken for a search and rescue of a lost snowboarder. Subject was located unharmed.
10:30pm, Ritz Carlton, Truckee: Unknown suspect stole victim’s wallet while she was eating lunch.
February 12
8:30pm, 4500 Muletail, Carnelian Bay: Report taken for a battery between roommates. No prosecution desired.
February 13
12:45pm, Schaffer Mill Road, Truckee: Report taken and arrest made for a domestic violence incident. Male subject assaulted his pregnant girlfriend during an argument.
10:30pm, Northstar California Resort: Victim dropped his GoPro Camera off the chairlift. The camera was gone when the victim went back to the location.
February 14
10:20am, 7900 Forest Glenn, Tahoe Vista: Unknown suspect stole $40 in personal items from victim’s unlocked vehicle.
12:15pm, 300 Block Elizabeth, Homewood: Victim received a virus notification on her computer stating to call a 1-800 number to have it removed. Victim paid $168, but the suspect tried to get her to pay several hundred more dollars. The victim became suspicious and filed a report.
February 15
6:45pm, 7000 Block Latone, Tahoe Vista: Unknown suspect vandalized victim;s vehicle while he was attending Jewish Temple.
February 16
3pm, 1100 Block Bristol Circle, Tahoe Vista: Unknown suspect took victim’s handicap placard from her unlocked vehicle. Occurred sometime overnight.
February 17
4pm, 5000 Northstar California Resort: Two subjects were skiing at Northstar and went out of bounds and got lost. Subjects were located by ski patrol prior to declaring an official search and rescue.
5:45pm, 200 Block Squaw Valley Road, Olympic Valley: Sometime overnight, unknown suspect entered victim’s bedroom and stole $2,000 in cash.
6pm, 1100 Canterbury, Tahoe Vista: Unknown suspect stole $700 in personal items from victim’s unlocked vehicle.
11:30pm, 500 Block North Lake Boulevard, Tahoe City: Subject was contacted due to his poor parking job and found to have an outstanding warrant. Suspect was arrested without incident.
February 18
11:30am, 500 Block Forest Glen, Olympic Valley: Unknown suspect stole victim’s snowblower sometime in the past month.
1pm, Hobart Mills, Truckee: Report taken for an agency assist with Nevada County for a search and rescue. Subject was located prior to deployment.
1pm, Alpine Meadows Resort: Male snowboarder became lost while riding at Alpine Meadows. A search and rescue was initiated, and the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team located him near Whiskey Creek unharmed.
4:30pm Tahoe Donner Cross-Country Ski Area: Mutual aid request for an avalanche that occurred on the trails of Tahoe Donner cross0country. An area check revealed no missing or trapped individuals.
10:30pm, 300 Block Coon, Kings Beach: Known male suspect attacked the victim with two other unknown males. No motive is known for the attack.
February 19
8:20am, 200 Block Speedboat, Kings Beach: Unknown suspect broke the back window out of victim’s vehicle and stole $3,300 in sporting goods and personal items.
February 20
2:15am, 3100 Block North Lake Boulevard, Tahoe City: Report taken for domestic disturbance between boyfriend and girlfriend. Subjects both pushed each other. No injuries occurred, no prosecution desired.
12:15pm, Northstar California Resort: Suspect admitted to fraudulently using victim’s pass to access the mountain. No prosecution desired.
10:15pm, 8700 Block Brook, Kings Beach: Report taken for two sisters engaging in a physical fight. The suspect violated a restraining order by showing up at victim’s house. A citizen’s arrest form was signed by the victim.
February 23
9am, 7600 Block Highlands View, Truckee: Incident report taken for documentation. Reporting party reports that a female has been acting suspicious around her since November. Recently, the suspect attempted to enter victim’s apartment without her permission. Reporting party’s roommate scared her off.
12pm, 4200 Block Interlaken, Homewood: A male suspect sent victim several emails professing his love and sexual intentions toward her. Suspect also sent emails to the victim’s friends. A restraining order has been issued.
6pm Highway 89/Squaw Valley Road, Olympic Valley: Pursuant to a road rage incident, a male suspect punched the victim in the face causing a fractured orbital wall and stitches. The suspect was driving a newer gold Jeep Grand Cherokee, partial CA license plate number: 7GPY. Contact sheriff’s office if you were a witness or have any information regarding the suspect in this case.
February 24
12:15pm, 13000 Ritz Carlton, Truckee: Report taken for threats. Male subject threatened to stab victim in the neck with a screwdriver. The suspect was a customer in a retail shop and threatened an employee for no apparent reason.
February 25
3:30am, Park/Bend, Kings Beach: Male subject was arrested for public intoxication after receiving reports that he engaged in a fight and was unable to care for himself.
9am, Blackwood Canyon, West Shore: Report taken for a search and rescue of three snowmobilers who got stuck near the PCT at Barker Pass. All subjects were located by Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue, safe and sound.
12:15pm, 8900 Block North Lake Boulevard, Kings Beach: A male suspect took a laptop off the table of the Hostel Tahoe and attempted to leave with it. Hostel guests blocked the exit, and eventually the suspect fled without the computer. Suspect was later located and arrested for attempted robbery.
3pm, 400 Block North Lake Boulevard, Tahoe City: Unknown suspect stole victim’s snowboard from victim’s unlocked vehicle sometime overnight
5:30pm, 1600 Block Squaw Valley Road, Olympic Valley: Unknown suspect smashed victim’s vehicle window and stole a laptop and personal items.
6pm, 1600 Block Lanny, Olympic Valley: Unknown suspect entered victim’s home and stole $5,600 worth of ski equipment.
February 26
10:30am, Northstar California Resort: Male subject was cited and released when he was caught stealing victim’s snowboard.
11:45am, Northstar California Resort: A male suspect attempted to rent a $900 pair of ski boots with cash, but policy states that you must have a valid credit card to rent. The boots were discovered missing two days later. The reporting party suspects the male renter from earlier.
February 27
2am, 7800 Block North Lake Boulevard, Tahoe Vista: Deputies responded to a report of a subject with a gun. Upon arrival, the suspect was non-compliant and wouldn’t follow orders. The suspect was eventually taken into custody after a Taser was deployed. It was later determined that the suspect never had a weapon and had planned on “suicide by cop.”
3pm, 100 Block Alpine Meadows Road, Tahoe City: Unknown suspect cut the lock that secured a snowblower and stole it sometime overnight.
February 28
11:45am, 8100 Block North Lake Boulevard, Kings Beach: Male subject was found stumbling in the highway in the middle of the day. The subject was taken into protective custody for public drunkenness. No charges will be filed.
5pm, 400 Block Squaw Creek, Olympic Valley: Unknown suspect stole $16,000 in bedding materials and dishes from his condos back in June 2016.
