Rainbow Lodge to reopen tomorrow

Sun staff reports

Rainbow Lodge at Donner Summit will reopen its doors on July 13, representatives of the Royal Gorge Resort, owner of the historic lodge, announced.

“We are pleased to reopen Rainbow Lodge hotel and restaurant facilities, just as the summer season gears up,” said Neil Erasmus, Royal Gorge General Manager.

The Rainbow Lodge, a stone and timber inn and restaurant located on Donner Summit at the Yuba River, was closed in February when a problem with the lodge’s septic system was detected.

The lodge is currently for sale, listed on the market in November for $7 million.

The existing structure was built in the 1920s out of local granite and hand-hewn timber and features open stone fireplaces, 33 rustic guest rooms, a historic bar, and an award-winning French restaurant that has served as a regional landmark for more than a decade.

Rainbow Lodge is located off of Interstate 80. Take I-80 east coming from San Francisco or Sacramento to the Rainbow Road exit. At the stop sign, turn right and follow Rainbow Road a half mile down the hill. Rainbow Lodge is just over the bridge on the left. From Reno, take I-80 west to Rainbow Road, turn left under the freeway and follow Rainbow Road to the lodge.
