‘Walking on the Water’ | Tahoe Pines singer forays into contemporary Christian music

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. – Following two successful contemporary country/folk/pop albums, Tahoe Pines resident Gena Marie Ruschmeyer has released her first contemporary Christian album, “Walking on the Water.”
The CD features 10 songs written by Ruschmeyer along with her melodic renditions of “Ave Maria” and “Alleluia” by Jerry Sinclair. Ruschmeyer carefully blends her vocal range and note intensity with verse and themes which are, at times, both comforting and compelling.
In her cover song, “Walking on the Water,” Ruschmeyer evokes a surreal feeling as she describes the dream which prompted both the lyrics and the melody for the song. The CD cover art, created by Ruschmeyer, depicts an image of Christ at the water’s edge.
“To the Highest” features Ruschmeyer’s crystal-clear, soprano vocals accompanied by her friend, Mark Davis, who adds vocal layers in an evocative, ethereal piece of praise to Christ.
Ruschmeyer’s songwriting has been and continues to be influenced by her personal experience. Her turn toward Christian music was prompted by a calling as a teenager and much later accelerated after a pilgrimage to Israel where she led music and sang in some of the oldest churches in the world. Her deepened strength of faith came about during two battles with cancer, from which she is now cancer-free.
The CD was produced by Tom Gordon and includes contributions from several Tahoe-area musicians. Digital downloads are available by song and in full at http://www.CDBaby.com/CD/GenaMarieRuschmeyer. CDs are available through Ruschmeyer and at PDQ Market in Tahoma, Obexer’s Marina in Homewood, and at BookShelf stores in Truckee and Tahoe City.
Her previous recording background includes “Thunder of the Buffalo,” a country/pop/folk album with backup by Scotty Joss (presently with Dwight Yoakam), Don Evans (guitarist with Billy Joel) and Donna Axton (pianist with Hoyt Axton). Her other CD, “Gena Marie Ruschmeyer,” released in demo form, included three of Ruschmeyer’s country songs and Scotty Joss and Clint Strong, who played lead guitar for Merle Haggard.
Gena has performed in front of audiences since the age of 14. She has a bachelors from UC Chico and an associate degree of applied science in paralegal/law.
