North Tahoe golf | Fenley leads Lakers in windy Edgewood golf tournament

The North Tahoe golf team took part in a windy, mixed-division tournament at Edgewood Tahoe on Friday.

The tournament featured 14 schools from the 1A, 2A and 3A divisions, with 80 players enduring 30 mph wind gusts and a wind chill in the 30s.

Lowry took top honors as a team with a impressive score of 414. Elko finished second with a 423, and Spring Creek was third at 436. All three schools are members of the 3A.



Whittell came in fourth place, and first among 2A schools, with a 454, followed by Incline at 464, North Tahoe at 484 and Yerington at 524.

Caden Bammsbuger and Jon Hull, both from Elko, shot a 75 to earn medalist honors. Lowry’s Jacob Jakich was second individually with a 78.



Among the 2A contingent, defending state champion Jordan Wright of Incline posted a low score of 79, while Incline teammate Sam Canino shot an 86 and Whittell’s Austin Buyak shot an 88.

North Tahoe’s Justin Fenley tied for fourth, shooting an 89 to lead the Lakers. The Lakers’ Daniel Vandewiele shot a 96, Trevor Semmens a 97, Riley McGuire McCarthy and Griffin Granger a 101, and Zachary Kriston a 107.

and#8220;Our team scores have been dropping every match this season, and with the state zones coming up this Thursday, we have a great chance of qualifying for state,and#8221; said North Tahoe head coach Steve Munro.
