TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Tahoe City Public Utility District (TCPUD) will begin construction this May on a $2.1 million project to replace the aging irrigation system at the Tahoe City Golf Course. The current system has been in place since 1976, well beyond the typical 30-year lifespan for mountain environments. Thanks to ongoing maintenance, it has lasted longer than expected, but a full replacement is now necessary.  

The new irrigation system will significantly improve water efficiency, provide better turf coverage, and enhance playing conditions throughout the course. 

“This irrigation project represents our continued investment in the long-term success of the Tahoe City Golf Course,” said the TCPUD Board President Judy Friedman. “From the new Queenie Dunn practice facility to the new the irrigation system, we’re committed to ensuring this beloved community asset remains a high-quality, enjoyable place to play for generations to come.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in early May and is expected to conclude by mid-September 2025. TCPUD is committed to minimizing disruptions during the 2025 golf season; however, temporary hole closures will occur during construction. The golf course will also introduce dynamic pricing to discount daily green fees based on the number of holes open. 

The project is funded entirely by TCPUD property tax revenue and golf course revenue.
