SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” Our active weather pattern will continue throughout this week with several cold systems lined up to pay our region a visit.

Winter storm warnings are in effect so please allow extra time to get around. Today expect snow, heavy at times along with gusty winds from the southwest in the 20 to 30 mph range with gusts to 40 mph and ridge top winds gusting to near 100 mph.

Snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are likely below 7,000 feet with 12 to 28 inches above 7,000 feet by evening with locally higher amounts. The heaviest totals will be along Tahoe’s west shore and the Sierra west of Tahoe and Truckee.

Highs today will remain in the lower to mid 30s with higher elevations remaining in the 20s. A brief break will occur tonight with just some snow showers lingering and some decrease in wind. Lows will drop into the upper teens to mid 20s depending on the amount of clearing and decrease in wind.

A potentially stronger storm may impact our region Wednesday so stay tuned for that one. Ski resorts will pick up significant snowfall this week which should really help for the upcoming Christmas holiday.
