Cody was born on February 3rd 1991 in Scottsdale Arizona. In 2000, the family moved to Beaver Creek, Colorado where Cody discovered his love and talent for ski racing. He enjoyed several years of competition both in the states and around the world. Cody also enjoyed sailing in the summer in Grand Lake, Colorado. Cody graduated from Laurel Springs Academy then went to Denver University for two years in the engineering program. Cody worked in the family business for two years before he made his move to Incline Village, Nevada. There he worked summers on the golf course and winters on the ski hill as a snowcat driver. It’s also where he discovered two new loves, golf and McKenzie Kocmond.

Cody got engaged to McKenzie in Coeur D’alene, Idaho on August 1st 2020 on the famous floating green. Cody was a fierce competitor and one of the quotes in his journal was “Drive, don’t Ride”. Cody was also fierce in his loyalty to his family and friends. He was generous, kind and thoughtful and hated injustice. His laugh and smile were infectious.

He is survived by his loving parents Mark and Kim, and three siblings, Blaine, Gabrielle, and Cole and his fiancé McKenzie, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, and many, many friends. He will be missed terribly but we will spend the rest of our days being grateful for the thirty years we had.

There will be a celebration of life held at the Chateau at the Championship golf course in Incline on Sunday, August 15th starting at 3pm.

December 28, 1954 – November 11, 2020

Jeffrey Scott Rose, husband, father and beloved mentor in his community passed away November 11, 2020 surrounded by his loving wife and five devoted children. He was 65 years old.

Jeff was born in Warren, Ohio to the incredible parents Ron and Toots Rose. Following Ron’s music career, the Roses moved their young family out west to the up-and-coming South Lake Tahoe where Ron held a two-week contract to work for a man named Harvey at his new two-door saloon casino. After personally handwriting the contract, Toots drove her four children, with another on the way, across the country. Along the way, Jeff, 3 at the time, asked about every puddle, “Is that Lake Atagaho?”

Thankfully Jeffrey acclimated to the natural playground of the Sierra. Growing up, he was an athlete and a beloved member of his community, graduating in 1973 from South Lake Tahoe High School. He was a stellar member of the ski, football, and baseball teams. All who knew him described his as a magnanimous presence.

Jeff had an amazing work ethic, which he says came from his mother Toots who taught him to build rock walls, lay sod, and a host of other practical skills. He used these skills in various careers and personal endeavors. Whether it was teaching skiing, building tree houses, or taking the kids camping or fishing, he paid it forward with his children and nieces and nephews. He could have rivaled Chevy Chase with his Christmas decoration extravaganza, his neighbors often chiding him that he would black out the block. He valued traditions, holidays, and – most of all – family. His charm and personality were another of his amazing assets. He was the kind of man who everyone noticed in a room. His daughter Kirsten said, “I was always proud he was my dad.”

Jeff met his beloved wife Heather Orr in 1987. They moved to Kings Beach and married July 31, 1991. Together, they raised a blended family. Jeff started his real estate career and founded North Shore Resort Reality, Inc. which he poured his life into for more than 30 years. During this time, he became a respected member of the business and community growth of North Lake Tahoe, volunteering countless hours to those in his community battling addiction and tragedy. He was the man around Kings Beach who was available to plow anyone out after a big storm just to be neighborly.

His close friends will never forget his contagious laugh. He loved giving friends and family a hard time and would often say a smart-ass remark before giving you a bear hug. He would stop for a man broken down on the side of the road, pick up a hitchhiker who needed a lift. He was the guy who welcomed everyone to the dinner table, or even to stay on his couch for the summer. Any given day there would be a hodge-podge of souls at his house, receiving a good meal and a lot of teasing. He loved to joke with people and cared deeply about sharing the true struggles of life with friends in open ways. He was a man of faith in a subtle, magnetic kind of way. The one who would show up for you in your darkest hour and not preach but remind you of the power of faith in something bigger than yourself. He taught us all the true meaning of faith and love through his life.

Jeff is survived and missed by his mother Dorothy “Toots” Rose, loving wife Heather Rose; children, Kirsten Rose Murrietta, Brooke Rose Brumfield, Sean McGuire, Luke Rose and Nick Rose; his grandchildren- Owen, Sam, Clae, Emmett, Juniper and Sage, his siblings, Rhonda Tremoureux, Lynda Salmon, and David Rose, his many nieces and nephews, and his extended family who kept coming back.

Always with a twinkle in his eye, filled with the joy of life and contagious laughter, Alek Jordan Adomshick passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2021, while on a camping trip with his dad for a Father’s Day celebration weekend.

Alek Adomshick was born at Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee on June 9, 1993. He was a lifelong Truckee resident. Alek attended Glenshire Elementary School, Alder Creek Middle School, and graduated from Truckee High School in 2011. After graduation, Alek moved to San Luis Obispo to attend Cuesta College and to live with his beloved big sister, Erin. He developed an interest in every aspect of business and sales during his college years. After meeting many friends, and experiencing college, Alek moved back to the Tahoe/Reno area to reunite with old friends and to savor his love for the Tahoe area, people, and snow, once again. He worked at Alpine Meadows, Coyote Moon, and Martis Camp. He enrolled in Grand Canyon University and continued his education as a Business Analytics major. In the spring of 2021, Alek was studying to get his insurance license.

From the time Alek was a little boy until the end of his life, he always wanted to experience the world to the fullest. He was curious, wanted to explore and to learn about everything around him. He loved the outdoors: the mountains, the snow, the wilderness and the ocean. He was always up to try a new adventure. He loved golf and was an avid snowboarder. Alek was an observer, philosopher, and always liked to share his perspective on things, which could very well be different from anyone around him. Most of all, he cherished the people around him who he loved. He delighted in cracking jokes, making others laugh and then breaking out in laughter himself.

Alek leaves behind his mom Joni Adomshick, his dad, Stephen Adomshick, and his big sis. Erin Smith. In addition, he has many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. Most of all, he will be sorely missed by his favorite side-kick and companion, his faithful and loving dog, Luke.

Please come to Alek’s Celebration of Life on August 15, 2021. It will be held at the West End Beach Pavilion from 4-7:00 pm. Come in bright, casual attire. Please bring a picture to post and share, if you have one. If you are bringing children, or you are just a child at heart, layer your swimsuit so that you can jump in the lake and make a splash for him after the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be given to the Truckee Humane Society in Alek’s name.

More than 6,000 people have been evacuated, 2,400 acres burned, and at least 50 structures destroyed as a result of the River Fire that started at the Bear River Campground in Colfax Wednesday afternoon, authorities said at a Thursday morning briefing.

The fire, which was zero percent contained as of Thursday morning, spread rapidly after initially being reported at 2:02 p.m. Wednesday, according to Cal Fire spokesperson Mary Eldridge. Just one acre at that time, the blaze grew to approximately 100 acres by 3:30 p.m., threatening homes and forcing evacuations along Highway 174.

Fire weather remained critical Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — 14-year-old James Savage this past weekend became the youngest person to swim the length of Lake Tahoe and earn Tahoe’s Triple Crown.

Savage completed the 12-hour, 21.3-mile swim on Sunday when he swam from Camp Richardson in South Lake Tahoe to the Hyatt Regency in Incline Village.

Earning the Lake Tahoe Triple Crown involves a series of three different swims, all of them spanning above 10 miles, including the true width, length and Vikingsholm, that traverses the southern portion of the lake.

Last August at 13-years-old, Savage, of Los Banos, became the youngest to complete the 12-mile true width swim, also known as the “Godfather” swim, from Cave Rock to the Godfather Mansion in Homewood.

Savage and his mother agreed that the physical training for the swim was a lot easier than the mental endurance it takes for a person to complete such an enduring swim.

“I had no doubts whatsoever,” said James’ mother Jillian Savage. “He’s been swimming almost every day, six, seven days a week since he was eight. With open water, it’s just what he does. But mentally, even though it takes a whole bunch of us to make the swim possible, he’s really out there by himself.”

The swim was piloted by Captain Tom “Reptile” Linthicum of Lake Tahoe Marathon Swim Federation and John Grunstad with Cathy Harrington as the official observer and Jillian Savage as the kayaker for the trip. Catherine Breed served as a pace swimmer and the crew chief.

“It’s not like he can sit and talk to us when he gets bored,” said Jillian. “His face is in the water and so really, he’s by himself. That’s what I sometimes worry about: is he just going to get bored a few hours in and say, ‘Screw this,’ and want to get out? But this time, he kept telling me, ‘Mom, I feel so much better mentally prepared this time.’ And he went out and he just did such a great job. I knew within the first mile that this was going to be done.”

James said that his love for swimming started at age 5, and participated in his first competitive swim at 6.

“At first, I didn’t really want to swim,” said James. “I was on a swim team and my brother was doing it too, and we were there and my mom told me, ‘Why don’t you just hop in?’ and then I did, and I seemed to like it and it just kept going until I found open water and did it even more.”

Now, nine years later, James says that his love for the open water is still just as strong as when he started, due to the freedom the open waves offer.

“I definitely liked exploring different places because the pool … you get to go to different places, but it’s all the same,” said James. “Open water, you can swim in oceans, lakes, and you get to travel around.”

With the title of the youngest person to ever achieve the Triple Crown, James said he isn’t sure what he wants to do next. His mom said she’s almost afraid to find out.

“I think I’ll just wait,” said Jillian. “When he started this whole open water thing and he told me, ‘Mom, I want to swim from Alcatraz,’ and we kind of laughed in his face. We let him do it kind of hoping and thinking it would be a one and done, and he got out and he said, ‘I want to do this again. When’s the next one?’ And it just kept going and going and going and his feats kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger, and I’m kind of afraid to see what he wants to do next. But whatever it is, we’ll make it happen.”

The SnowGlobe Music Festival will not be returning to South Lake Tahoe, the City Council decided on Tuesday.

In 2019, the city signed a five-year contract with SnowGlobe on the grounds that event organizers provide an alternative location to hold the event.

Since the event was canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic, the organizers were required to provide the city with the alternative location by June 18, which they didn’t do.

The city sent the organizers a letter informing them they were in breach of contract. They responded with a list of six locations that they considered, including Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, Lake Tahoe Golf Course, George Whittell High School and surrounding area, multiple casino parking lots, and Camp Richardson and surrounding areas. They city said none of them were suitable, meaning organizers continued to be in breach of contract.

Many members of the public have long been outspoken against the multi-day concert, which was held over a few days and capped on New Year’s Eve, citing noise and trash complaints.

Organizers of the event declined to defend themselves during the council meeting, so after very little discussion, the council voted to end the contract with the event.

Council member Cody Bass said now he wants the city to focus on hosting its own family-friendly New Year’s Eve event.

Mayor Pro Tem Devin Middlebrook agreed, saying he didn’t want the issues with SnowGlobe to dissuade any other possible music festivals from coming to the region.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. — A man who fled from authorities last week while they were serving an arrest warrant was taken into custody a couple of days later.

Adrian Gannion, 43, was taken into custody jointly by the South Tahoe Police Department and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, Aug. 1 without incident, officials reported on Sunday.

“We would like to thank the public for the various tips that helped lead to his capture,” South Tahoe Police wrote in a social media post.

Gannion had fled from authorities on Friday from the 900 block of Glorene Avenue which led to a search in the Gardner Mountain area.

Deputies and officers from the Sheriff’s Office, SLTPD and California Highway Patrol assisted in the search. A CHP helicopter also assisted in the search to no avail.

The search was called off later that day when Gannion could not be found.

Officials said Gannion was on post release community supervision and had a no bail warrant for failing to abide by the conditions of his release.

Gannion was still in custody as of Wednesday morning in the El Dorado County Jail.
